The South Australian Cricket Association’s new western grandstand development was driven by the organisation’s desire to provide world class facilities for its sportsmen and women, and increase seating capacity of Adelaide Oval and provide improved facilities for SACA members.

As Client Representative Mtrack provided the key interface between SACA and the project manager.

A key challenge and requirement for the success of the project was to be able to deliver the project using “fast track” design and construct delivery method.
Key issues in meeting the program delivery included:

  • The program had a non-negotiable completion date to ensure that the Grandstand was ready for the Ashes Test Match in early December 2010
  • Managing escalation through the construction period
  • Availability of trades
  • Minimising design changes or revisiting previously discounted or un-briefed areas through the construction period.

Practical completion was achieved one month prior to the scheduled Ashes Test Match and a number of functions and events were successfully conducted at the venue in the lead up to the Test Match. The Grandstand was very well received and performed to expectations during the Ashes Test Match.
